Choosing the Best Bed For Your Child: A Look at Your Options

Whether you are considering purchasing your child’s first bed and bedroom set or you simply want to update what they already have, there are several things to consider when purchasing youth bedroom furniture.

This includes everything from the size of the bedroom to whether or not more than one child will be the room and how much storage space is needed. While twin beds are one of the most popular options, let’s look at several others choices so that you can decide when one is best for your children.

Bunk Beds

It would be difficult to find a child that is not excited at the prospect of having bunk beds and they are definitely ideal for shared bedrooms. Available in a wide array of styles and color options, you are certain to find the perfect set for your specific needs. However, be sure to choose bunk beds that include a guardrail on top and allow for mattresses to be at least five inches below the rail. If you plan to keep your beds for several years, it is a good idea to look for bunk beds that can be separated and used as twin beds. This will make it considerably easier to change things around in the future, especially if your children decide they are too old for bunk beds.

Bunk Beds with Stairs

In the past most bunk beds included a ladder to climb onto the top bunk. While these are still a great option, you may want to consider purchasing bunk beds with stairs. This makes climbing to the top easier and safer. As an added bonus, most sets have stairs that include pullout drawers. This space is perfect for storing everything from out of season clothes to extra toys.

Loft Beds

If your child has a small room, a loft bed may be your best selection. A loft bed includes an elevated bed with empty space beneath it. Much like a set of bunk beds that are missing the bottom bunk, they offer room for a desk, toy box, play area, and more below. Just be certain your ceiling is high enough that your child will not be constantly bumping his or her head.

Storage Beds

Both bunk beds and single beds may be made into storage beds simply by adding a storage drawer underneath. Available in the same finish as the bed, they can easily be rolled underneath the bed to offer additional storage.
