Sugar and spice and everything nice…right? Little girl’s bedrooms can be one of the most fun places in your home to decorate. Because little girls are so diverse, you really have a limitless pool of design options to choose from.

Keep in mind your individual girl and her tastes. As tempting as it is to take over and design your dream bedroom…she will appreciate it if you take the time to include her and incorporate her ideas into the design.

When presenting a child with design options, it can be helpful to choose the overall theme, and offer her selections from a smaller number of options. For instance, you can choose the colour green and let her choose the actual paint chip, or vice versa. Some girls will love to jump in and wade through the sea of ideas, while others will find it overwhelming. So take the approach best suited to your child.

The Whole Rainbow

Try bold and bright hues pulled from all across the color spectrum! Keep all of your colors together by using one element (a pattern, shape or certain color) repeatedly. Choose bedroom furniture that is a light color such as light woods or white. Don’t forget about your curtains and rugs; use those to make a lively impact with patterns and bold colors. If you like lots of color and lots of fun, this is a great theme for your little girl’s bedroom!

Little Girl Bed Furniture Low LoftNaturally Whimsical

Want a room that’s full on fun but a little less bold in colors? Try going for a whimsical look. Use lots of different colors, just like in the previous theme, but tone them down to softer hues. Greens, blues and pinks or purples pair up nicely. Add in a touch of nature, like cute animals, butterflies, trees and flowers to get that storybook feel. Choose a fun and functional loft bed or bunk bed and get the most out of your new bedroom.

Pink Free Zone

Okay. Let’s call a truce on the pink-debate! If you’re on the opposing side of girly-pink rooms, take your next bedroom theme in a different direction. Try an ultra-warm pumpkin orange and lime green room. Make sure you don’t let your orange tones fall into the browns…really shoot for vibrant and rich tones. Pair it up with graphic floral patterns, stripes and clean design. Choose a kids bed that fits both the age of your girl and her needs. A loft bed can add a lot of extra function if you need more storage or play area. Bright blues make a beautiful contrast to this color scheme, so consider adding a rug or other accents in blue.

Sophisticated Little Lady

How about revving up the style? Use crown moldings, patterned wall papers and tidy carpeting. Creams, light greens and blues, neutral colors and plenty of bedding and cushion. Invest in an extra-lovely bed made from carved wood with pull out drawers. Top it with plush but elegant bedspreads and pillows. The look is a bit traditional but geared to little girls. If you’re feeling extra creative, build a faux fireplace feature on one of the walls. For accent colors you can choose to go bold or soft; for a bold accent take it red; for a softer girlish feel head into the yellows or pinks.

Poetic Charm

Jot down a paragraph or sentence from your favorite storybook, poem or quote. Based on your chosen excerpt, build your entire theme from the tone of your written piece. Is it funny and carefree? Is it deep and thoughtful? Is it bouncy and playful? Take your cues from the page and design a room around your girl’s favorite book. Make a feature wall displaying text from the story or your favorite line.
